iART holds live auctions approximately every two months at its offices in Shinbashi, Tokyo. Many types of items are auctioned off including Japanese modern art, modern ceramics, Chinese art, western decorative art, jewelry, contemporary art, and ko-bijyutu (art works before the Japanese Edo period).

All of our items up for auction are featured in our catalogues, which are available approximately one month prior to each auction. Purchasing a copy of our most recent catalogue is 3,000 yen. We also offer yearly subscriptions for 10,000 yen. All shipping and handling of catalogues are free of charge. Please contact us for more information.
*Please note that our catalogues are in Japanese only. English versions of our catalogues can be viewed on our web site.

If you are interested in bidding on a lot, please register as a member of iART before making a bid. We will send you a registration form to be completed.

Previews and Condition Reports

We recommend prospective bidders to attend our auction previews, which are held 4 days prior to each auction. Auction previews allow prospective bidders to view items for themselves. Any questions or concerns regarding any of the lots may also be answered at this time. If you are unable to attend the previews, please feel free to contact us via phone or e-mail. We can send condition reports and detailed photographs for specific lots and answer any questions you may have.

Bidding at the Auction

We provide all bidders with a paddle at the auction site on the day of the auction.
Please note that the bids do not include the buyer’s premium or consumption tax.
When the auctioneer has accepted the final bid and hammered down, the auctioneer will call out the paddle number of the successful bidder.

Absentee Bids

If you cannot participate in our live auctions, you may place bids by submitting an Absentee Bids form via e-mail or fax. Please contact us to request a form. We will follow the instructions given by each bidder and will bid on his/her behalf to try and purchase the lot for the lowest price possible.

Buyer’s Premium and Payment Terms

In addition to the hammer price, the successful bidder is required to pay, an amount equivalent to 16.2% of the first 1,000,000 yen of the hammer price, and 10.8% on the amount by which the hammer price exceeds 1,000,000 yen, as the buyer’s premium and consumption tax.

Collection of Purchases

After the payment for the purchases are received, items may be collected at our sales offices located in Shinbashi, Tokyo. We can also arrange for the packing and shipping of items by request and by the buyer’s expense.
